History

The lots on Myrtle Avenue were formerly owned by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services. In January 2013, BK ROT, a local youth-run composting service, began an almost-two-year campaign for widespread community support for a medium-scale compost site and wildlife garden.

With the support of our City Council Member’s office, Brooklyn Community Board 4, 596 Acres, and local residents, the lots were successfully transferred to the NYC Parks Department. The group of organizers signed license agreements with NYC Parks GreenThumb in December 2014, April 2015, and June 2020. The space has been maintained by residents as an all volunteer effort.

Historia
